Madeley is rightly proud of its history and tradition as a market town. Part of Madeley lies within Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage site (WHS) declared in 1986. The same area had previously been designated as the Severn Gorge Conservation Area in 1980.

The Town Council has supported the Madeley Local History Group which has carried out a number of excellent heritage projects, including the publication of booklets and leaflets on the local history of the area.
