Madeley Christmas Lights – Saturday 30 November

  • The Town Council’s annual Christmas Celebration along with entertainment and activities.

This year we have a great programme for the annual Madeley Lights Switch-on event.  On Saturday 30 November we kick-off  at 2pm with the Christmas Market this will be accompanied by children’s fairground rides and street entertainers – the ‘Ice Fairies’ and of course Santa’s Grotto.

As most of you are aware we are unable to use the Anstice Memorial Hall for this event as the refurbishment work is still ongoing.

From 2-5pm there will be FREE children’s craft activities in Madeley Library and also Face Painting will be available along with refreshments provided by the Anstice Community Trust volunteers.

Santa’s Grotto will be open from 2pm – last entry at 5.30pm. This year our tech guys will transform the usually closed front entrance to Tesco into a wonderful Santa’s grotto. Children can come and meet Santa and receive a small gift for just a £1 each.

During the afternoon there will be lots of entertainment on our outdoor stage; Members of the Abraham Darby Band will play for us and we will be delighted with Choirs from Sir Alexander Fleming School and Woodland Primary School, music from The Telford Community Steel Band and we also have X Factor’s Richard Ryan, a 3 piece band – Wicked Game and the talented singer Millie.

There will also be Dave’s Magic Shows for the children from 4-6pm.

Santa will head the Christmas Parade up Madeley High Street at 6.15pm –bring a torch and meet at the bottom of the High Street to join in.  He will then join up with Madeley Town Council Mayor Cllr Arnold England and three lucky children on the stage for the switch on celebration at 6.30pm.

Madeley Town Council would like to convey special thanks to the Ironbridge Lions for their help each year with Santa’s Grotto and the wonderful street parade through Madeley. Also, thank you to Tesco Madeley for hosting Santa’s Grotto in store this year. Thanks also to The Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust for providing such fabulous prizes for the lucky children helping to switch the lights on.

Keep an eye out for more information nearer the time and also remember to pick up your Madeley Matters.
