Madeley is righly proud of its history and tradition as a market town. Part of Madeley lies within Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage site (WHS) declared in 1986. The same area had previously been designated as the Severn Gorge Conservation Area in 1980.
The Parish Council has supported the Madeley Local History Group which has carried out a number of excellent heritage projects, including the publication of booklets and leaflets on the local history of the area.
In 2012, the Town Council decided that it wanted to become more actively involved in the conservation and enhancement of historic buildings within the Parish area. It appointed a Regeneration officer to work with owners of historic buildings to bring in grants to refurbish buildings, focussing upon community based initiatives that would be of benefit to local people as well as revitalising the centre of Madeley.
